PROTECTING FAMILIES FROM THE FAMILY COURT SYSTEM

I am a victim of the Family Court System not because of a personal custody case, but because I was the child caught I the middle of the firestorm of a custody case. My parents divorced when I was 7 years of age, I was the youngest of 3, my 2 other brothers 13 and 12. My biological mother used the law to keep my father away from me, falsifying documents that solidified a permanent restraining order against my Dad, also permitting her to have sole custody of me after a split of custody (my oldest brother wasn’t biologically my Dad’s son), sending my second brother to live with my Dad while I stayed with her. For years, I was deprived of my father, being brainwashed into believing that I was replaced by my step-sister. During this separation, my biological mother allowed me to be abused sexually and mentally by her many selective companions. Every time I attempted to speak out I was beaten and threatened to be thrown into a foster house where “worse s**t will happen since your good-for-nothing Daddy doesn’t want you”. It wasn’t until my teenage years when I found my Dad, and ran away from home every night until the courts finally granted him custody of me. Until this very day, I refuse to acknowledge that my biological mother exists because of the pain and suffering that she refuses to admit to putting me through. Even now at the age of 32, I am proud to and always will be Daddy’s Girl.

Today I am happily married, with 3 children of my own. Currently I am finishing up my Bachelors in Arts Degree in Criminal Justice at Saint Peter’s University. I intend on continuing my education through law school, however I haven’t determined which one to go to as of yet. I do intend on perfecting my knowledge in the areas of Family and Matrimonial Law, following Criminal Law in hopes of working with any level of prosecution related to sexual assault victims. Through my experience as a victim, I vow to do my best to help those that are victims of ignorant circumstances, most especially those children caught in the middle of parents and legal officials that do not have their best interest at heart. I hope that with FCLU, I will begin to walk the right path in succeeding in this goal.
